For the third consecutive year, friends and family met at the fire hall in Washington, Va. for their annual reunion. By 10 a.m. all facets of preparation from the organizers were completed. The next two hours one never heard so much talking and visiting. A very warm crowd of about 80, kept cool by the hard working air conditioning and fans.
At 12:30 p.m. our business meeting began. After counting the yeahs and nays in voting matters, we concluded business with the presentation of gifts to our various categories. The categories and winners were: Oldest family member present, Ida Dwyer Cornell; Most generations present, Ida Dwyer '"amell; Youngest family member present, Luke Bedortha; and the oldest married couple, Clyde and Lillie Dwyer Pullen (58 years).
Joseph J. Dwyer of Middletown, Virginia offered the Thanksgiving prayer before our lunch began. Lunch being topped off with some bakery items presented by our cousins, Clara Settle and Mary Gardenhour, who incidently made our reunion cake. Tables bearing the feast were each donned with floral contributions by Jeanie Dwyer and Sally D. Keyser.
Jack Dwyer, from Black Rock Farm. Washington, Virginia our distant cousin (somehow), but we don’t know’ the degree at this time, gave our audience a wonderful dialogue on his Irish kindred. Jack has been to Ireland many times, and knows his Irish roots and family well.
One of the old Dwyer Clan seats is Dundrum; about six miles from Tipperary Towrn in County Tipperary. Jack's family wTas nearer to Carrick-On-Suir than Dundrum, near to wrhich is a family cemetery. Within this cemetery are buried only Dwyers, which indicates howr important a sect or clan they were. His ancestors immigrated about 1750 to New' York. In 1773 they went back to Ireland.
