Oversight of the oxygenated fuel program is one of several activites relating to petroleum quality which the Office of Weights and Measures in the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services administers. The Department’s Office of Weights and Measures inspects gasoline despensers for correct quantity delivered and samples and analyzes motor fuel to assure that it meets guaranteed claims. Weights and Measures also monitors installation of “Stage II” vapor recovery equipment at gas pumps in Northern Virginia and in the Richmond area to reduce gasoline vapors escaping into the atmosphere, contributing to harmful summertime ground level ozone.
