Group Departs
For Papal Visit

On Saturday, August 7, eight members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church began their pilgrimage to Denver, Colorado to participate in World Youth Day ‘9:5.
This event, set for August 10-15. is to drawyoung people from 70 nations and include the participation of Pope John Paul II. The international meeting for World Youth is celebrated in a different country every other year, with a theme for each celebration. This year’s theme is “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)
The participants will not only be gathering with the Holy Father, but also learning about the Church. With thousands of young people from around the world they will experience many religious, cultural, and social events that will help them understand their Catholic identity and encourage them to commit themselves to Christ in a truly “universal” and unified manner.
The group from St. Peter’s led by Pamela Lynn, includes, in addition to Marcy Lynn and Katie Lynn. Andy Hibl, Lisa Hibl, Elizabeth Nugent, Mary Dee Ellis and Welby Lynn. They will travel bv van and stay with a host family an hour’s ride from Denver.
We made the group commemorative T-shirts with the insignia of St. Peter-crossed keys over an upside down cross and the papal insignia-a blue shield, crossed keys and tiara (pope’s crown). We hope to give one of the T-shirts to the Pope!
