The Rappahannock library is reaching out into both the local community and surrounding counties as well. Summer programs will be winding down as the community switches gears for back to school and residents will have greater access to materials for the school year and beyond.
Both Fauquier County Library and Culpeper Library have agreed to interlibrarv lending privileges. In addition to reciprocal privileges, Culpeper Library has graciously loaned 50 books from their large type collection to the Rappahannock Library. Rappahannock, in turn will send volumes to the Culpeper Library so that both collections will be refreshed every three months. Patrons are encouraged to inform friends, relatives and neighbors who need large print materials.
Anyone interested in specific titles is encouraged to write down their requests at the front desk. Librarian Nieki Lynch stated that as many requests as possible will be accommodated. Currently, the exchange books feature some best sellers, westerns, mysteries and literature. As an added convenience these books are to be returned to the Rappahannock Library.
In another interlibrary exchange. Fauquier County Library has agreed to reciprocal borrowing privileges with Rappahannock. A person wishing to check out , materials needs only provide current identification with a current address. Patrons are reminded that any books, magazines, video tapes, etc., exclusive of the Culpeper large print collection at Rappahannock, should be returned to the system from which they were borrowed.
The library summer programs are winding down in August. The "Peer Amid Books” Summer Reading Program ends August 18. Prizes will be awarded after the Wednesday, August 11 program featuring storyteller Mike Dunnigan, and grand prizes will be awarded Wednesday, August 18 after the 7 p.m. show by the Blue Sky Puppet Theatre. Names of readers need to be logged before 1 p.m. on the Tuesday before the program to be eligible for that week’s drawing.
Parents are encouraged to register their readers for the last several weeks for summer reading and build skills before school. Information on registering readers is available at the circulation desk. Prizes drawn from the registered reader list will be drawn through the end of the program. Grand prizes will be drawn from among “Peer Amid” readers who have read at least 12 "E", or easy, books or 600 pages of the “J”, or juvenile books. All children are eligible to participate, including independent readers and those who have books read to them.
