When Arland Welch and Esther Kidwell began doing research on their houses in the mid 1980s, they did not quite know what they were getting into.
One bit of research led to another, and eventually they found themselves writing a history of Flint Hill.
It is available as a book now, published by Bowling Green Press. Mrs. Kidwell explains that she is Bowling Green Press. They assembled all the material they wanted to print, letters, maps, pictures, and their own text and took it to the Print House Express in Warrenton to have copies made and bound.
The book sells for $22.50 plus $2.50 for shipping. They had 200 copies made as a first printing and say they have sold most of them and now have to get more printed.
Mrs. Welch comes from Madison County. She lives at Mountain View near downtown Flint Hill. For 32 years she worked as the office manager at the Avtex plant in Front Royal and retired when it shut down. Occasionally she goes back in to work with the records to determine if someone is eligible for retire
