Coach Leake believes that his varsity players were a little intimidated and nervous in their first scrimmage game against Sherando, a new school near Winchester, but they only lost by eight points. “Our strength was our balanced scoring attack," said Leake.
The varsity starting line-up consisted of guards Ray Atkins and Andre Fletcher, forwards Jonathan Fletcher and Jason Settle, and center Derek Daczewitz.
Missing from last year’s starting line-up is J.C. Welch. “J.C. tore a ligament in his ankle during the first hour of the first day of tryouts this year.” said Coach Leake.
There are seven varsity players scoring in the double digits. “Our offensive play has really changed this year. We are a more of an outside shooting team and feature the three point line. Jason Brown gives us that little spark off the bench that is a knockout punch to an opponent,” said Coach Leake.
