and others. Mr. Wiese said that Santa Claus makes the store one of his stops too. Mr. Wiese said, “I really do enjoy the store and there are a lot of nice people out there.”
Viewtown Store is the last store in the county to also house a post office. The Viewtown post office, zip code 22746, has been in the same building since 1890, according to Mr. Wiese. Barbara Thomas is the postmaster; she took over the job from Mary Priest. The post office is open from 10:30 a m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
The store also offers a selection of 250 videos and has a copy machine. A sign invites you to “copy worms here.”
There are picnic tables outside, and stools inside, for customers to relax and visit with other friends. The front of the store has a big wide porch on it too. Customer Harry Purdy said, “I get more out of this store than I do out of the Wall Street Journal every day.” Another customer, George Colvin, said he lives nearby and has been coming to the store since he was two. He runs the repair shop next to the store.
F.ach day the weather report is listed on a blackboard behind the counter. Last Friday, manager Brian Nestor drew a sun by both Friday’s and Saturday’s high temperatures. Connie Bowers is also an employee here.
