Before the case was dropped, Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office investigator Gar} Healy testified that Jenkins had confessed when Mr. Healy was questioning him regarding the alleged crimes.
The taped confession was played in court, in which Mr. Jenkins admitted to every element of the crimes for which he was accused.
Mr. Jenkins said on the tape that he was spending the night at a coworker's home near Warrenton in which the alleged victim resided.
When the girl walked up to kiss Mr. Jenkins good night, he rubbed the clothing which covered her genitals, according to his confession. He said this occurred over three weekends when he stayed at the home.
“I'm really, truly sorry,” Mr. Jenkins said on the tape. “1 just wish I’d have come forward sooner.”
During a court hearing in January, Mr. Jenkins said that he only confessed after three and a half hours of questioning by police. “I was shaken up, scared. 1 didn’t know what was going on ... It was getting late. I wanted to go home,” Mr. Jenkins said at the hearing.
Judge Penn ruled at the time that “the confession was the product of a rational mind."
With the charges now* dropped; Mr. Casey said after the trial that Mr. Jenkins can never be retried for the allegations.
