Wonderful weather last week enabled high school baseball and softball teams to get in their first full week of practice.
They will open at home in games with Central Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. They will face Strasburg at home Tuesday.
Coach Jason Gochenour said it is too early to predict how well his team . will do this year. “We lost several key players to graduation last year,” he said. However he has some starters returning and is counting on James Eastham and Paul Brown, senior cocaptains, for leadership. Besides those two, Jon Digges, Willie Eastham and Jon Digges are varsity players returning to the team this year.
Willie Eastham, James Eastham and Jon Digges will be pitching. Griffin Ward will catch, Coach Gochenour said. The team had a scrimmage with Madison last week. Coach Gochenour said he was pleased with the hitting in that outing and reasonably pleased with the pitching. However, fielding and base running troubled him.
