A new play by Julie Portman, "My Sister’s Sister,” will preview at Ki Theatre on April 1 at 8 p.m.
The play is subtitled "An Autobiography....of Sorts.” Ms. Portman said that though many artists produce self portraits in their lives, not many theatre people do. She said, “I was not going to do this at all. Some people from Ki Theatre said, ‘Why don’t you do something about your sister and yourself?’ I thought it would be too hard; it seemed like such a challenge. I think 1 can learn from it.”
“The challenge,” she said, “is to objectify material that is personal material, material that teaches similar stories, imsges or experiences in other peoples’ lives.”
Ms. Portman enjoys performing in Rappahannock County, and plans to have a discussion period after the play. She said that she has found people here to be very important in the process of developing a new play. After the preview, she should have a better sense of w hat works and what does not work.
