On Saturday, April 8 there will be an organised effort to clean county roadsides and the county park and to Encourage people to look around their homes and take recyclable goods to appropriate locations.
From 9 a m. to 1 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Park community members may stop by and pick up trash bags supplied by VDOT and either report the road they wish to concentrate on, be assigned a road, or help pick up trash in the county park between the Rush River and the playground area.
Any group or organization that has “adopted” or wishes to adopt a particular road or roads should be sure to report their efforts or interests in so doing. At present, several roads have been “adopted” and as such are supposedly kept clean throughout the year, but an even greater number of roads are neither “adopted” nor kept very clean, and some are being increasingly used as illegal dump sites.
It would be helpful if residents worked together to keep their towns, hollows and neighborhoods and the roads to or in them clean. It would be particularly helpful if groups wanted to “adopt” certain troublesome areas for maintenance and surveillance. For a list of roads needing adoption, or to report roads being looked after or that need help, call the Ragged Mountain Resource Center at 675-1879.
