ANIMAL WARDEN
The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors is seeking qualified applicants for the Permanent, part-time position of Animal Warden for Rappahannock County. The position is approximately 3/4-time (30 hours per week), with a flexible schedule. Motor vehicle, fuel, supplies and equipment are provided by the County in support of the Law Enforcement and animal control and welfare responsibilities articulated in Chapter 9.4 ("Comprehensive Animal Laws") of Article 29 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended. Applicants must be in good health, with an ability to work an irregular schedule, including availability on nights and weekends. A valid driver's license with minimal recent motor vehicle infractions must be maintained, and a clear criminal records background check will be required of all applicants and will be periodically reviewed. Applicants must also possess a clear and demonstrable concern for the welfare of all animals under the County's jurisdiction, coupled with an ability to work well with people. The successful applicant must be available to take such training as the County and the Commonwealth may require, including travel to places of such training. The successful applicant must also be willing to obtain the necessary Drug Enforcement Administration and State Division of Animal Health certifications necessary to handle drugs used in the care and euthanasia of animals. The position involves the enforcement of all animal control laws of the Commonwealth and the County of Rappahannock, particularly with regard to the licensure of all dogs and the care of all animals. The position is under the direct supervision of the County Administrator, with additional support from the Sheriff's Office and the Commonwealth's Attorney. The Sheriff's Office provides essential in-the-field support, including back-up and dispatch through the Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center. The County's animal shelter is managed by the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL), and the Animal Warden will continue to function in concert with RAWL in the operation of that facility and the care of the animals housed therein. The salary is $16,000.00-17,000.00, negotiable, depending upon qualifications, with Health care and other benefits.
