There were brush fires on Red Oak, on the edge of Washington, and at John Tole’s house on the Rock Mills Road,
Another brush fire at the Waylands near Washington is believed to have been caused by a transformer arcing and setting grass on fire, he said.
High winds fanned the flames of several of these fires. Fortunately in most cases the wind was pushing the fires away from houses.
Two fires were reported at the Scrabble dumpster site. Sheriff Woodward said he believes the first started because of hot ashes put in the dumpster. The fire began again because it was not thoroughly doused, he said.
