for each. As a longtime fan of choral reading and poems, she wanted to do them with her students, but could not find ready made material for doing so.
Her students loved reading poems aloud in the classroom, and since choral reading is a requirement for third graders in Virginia, she decided to write her own choral readings, using the students’ suggestions for topics.
Mrs. Gangel said, “An ideal poem for choral reading should have a pronounced rhythm, a predictable rhyme scheme, repetition, and several verses.” It is possible to have different groups within the class read different verses of the poem, according to their reading ability.
