Last month a financial consultant in North Carolina sent a letter to a prospective investor:
“I have enclosed some information which I hope you find usefull in making a decision on Sante Fe Pacific. 1 have copied the lates Value Lines on SFX and BNL. Also enclosed is our analysts most recent report on Sante Fe...Hope this is all usefull to you.”
What impression do you suppose this illiterate letter made on the prospect? Not much. The prospect sent it to mp with a note of incredulity. Here was a representative of a major investment house, a member of the New York Stock Exchange, and he couldn’t spell “useful” or “Santa Fe.” He carelessly messed up on “latest" and he left out the possessive apostrophe in “analyst’s.” „ Leap across the continent.
