1 felt encouraged reading 'the report on the last school board meeting that Rappahannock Couhty Schools understand the need f0r a fulltime art teacher. The emotional and practical value of such a daily activity was well support by parents, teachers and students.
This subject reminded me of a conversation I have had with the fulltime art teacher at Highland, Karen Stinnett. I think her understanding, of the value art plays in the studerft’s life is useful to share with those considering the same for our local schools.
“There are no answers at the back of the book for art. You have to (jnd your own way to the answer. This is creative thinking. It is creative problem solving. And it is used for the rest of your life whether you are a doctor, lawyer, carpenter or cook.”
I am hopeful that we can foster this kind of thinking and its expression in the children of this county in all possible subjects as well as in their regular art classes.
