All of the men use their own money to ' purchase their authentic uniforms and accoutrements. “There is a lot of spirit in these outfits,” said Mr. Gilpin.
The original 7th Tennessee company, Mr. Gilpin explained, was from DeKalb County in Tennessee, and was part of the northern Virginia army in 1861. He said they fought in every major campaign in northern Virginia. Forty-four survived in this company until the surrender at Appomattox.
Mr. Gilpin has been involved in re-enactment groups since 1961, and has been a member of his present group since 1993.
