New house starts were off slightly in 1995 as compared to 1994, according to’building inspector Richie Burke.
Mr. Burke reported 55 permits for new houses in 1995. There were 58 in *1994. Mr. Burke said he expects Rappahannock’s growth to remain steady with between 50 and 60 new houses built each year.
“Growth follows the same pattern,” he said. “It goes up a few houses a year or down a few, but growth is steady year after year.”
This is an increase from the early 90s when a low point of 48 new houses were built in 1992 but a decrease from the late 80s when 87 new houses were built in 1987.
