He was a graduate of Fauquier High School and James Madison University with a degree in English. Until recently, he was sports writer for the Culpeper News.
At his death, he was a selfemployed contractor whose specialty was the reconstruction of log houses.
Van was an avid bird hunter and annually travelled to Texas to hunt quail.
Services were held on Jan. 17 at Clore Funeral Home in Culpeper with the Rev. John S. Farrar officiating. Interment was in Remington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rapidan Volunteer Fire Department or the Orange County Rescue.
Pallbearers were Chris Queen, Tim Queen, Allen Cubbage, Trone Powles, Charles “Bo” Mueller and Jimmy Green.
Clore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
