I would be most interested to know how many readers who, as hunters, have tried to slip quietly into the woods only to have a jay give the alarm and announce your presence and intent to all squirrels within hearing distance. This has happened to me when 1 was hunting and stalking birds with a camera.
I favor any fellow creature with a saving sense of humor and jays certainly seem to have one. If not, how to explain a jay’s seeming delight when they imitate the call of a Red-shouldered or Sharp-shinned Hawk and birds quickly flee to protective vegetation. This must be cause for merriment for a jay though I don’t know how a jay would laugh.
