If anyone was worried about the dogs at the RAWL animal shelter during the recent snowstorms, they may rest assured that they were well taken care of.
Mary Lou Walters, who is the fulltime kennel attendant at the shelter, made a courageous hike into the shelter on the afternoon of Sunday, Jan. 7., when the blizzard was at its worst. She ended up staying straight through until Tuesday evening.
A neighbor of Ms. Walters’s gave her a ride to the road which leads to the shelter and landfill. It then took her one hour to hike all the way in, sometimes trudging through drifts up to her waist. She said that the snow got especially deep the closer she got to the shelter.
