The National Guardsmen and their Humvees left on Sunday morning, after helping out the residents of Rappahannock tremendously during and after the snowstorms.
Because they could go where no other vehicles could, they were able to deliver much-needed medicine to several people around the county. Capt. Jeff Brown said that he thinks that having them here had a calming effect on people in the county. “People knew we could get them out one way or another if there was an emergency. Whatever help was needed, they were there,” he said.
James Richard Hartlap, 24, of Washington, was arrested for assaulting Julia Nichols, also of Washington, on Jan. 10. According to Capt. Brown, Mr. Hartlap used a weapon to intimidate Ms. Nichols by placing a weapon on a counter and verbally threatening her. Mr. Hartlap was released on personal recognizance.
Don Waverly Bailey, 20, of Warren County, was arrested on Jan. 15 for assault and battery on his girlfriend, Jamie Bolt, also of Warren County. The incident took place in Chester Gap on Route 610. Capt. Brown said that according to what Ms. Bolt said in the report, Mr. Bailey and Ms. Bolt had an argument and Mr. Bailey grabbed her around the throat and “ busted her lip.”
