£21,600 will be saved by reducing the French teacher from a full-time to a half-time position. Dr. Gangel said, “We have an excellent French teacher, but French has not been very popular since Spanish was introduced.” He said he would like to con‘tinue to offer a second language but the numbers of students could not justify a full-time position.

Another $20,300 will be saved by Teplacing one of the speech therapists ■with a teachers’ aide. Other cuts -include $8,000 for additional instructional materials, $2,400 for teachers to attend conferences, $8,800 for purchasing library books, $1,500 for enrichment programs, just under $1,000 for the technology teacher to work an additional five days making plans for next year, and $1,000 to rent graduation gowns and caps so elementary school teachers can participate in the high school graduation. The increased funding for libraries was added to the budget because federal funding for school libraries has • been eliminated. !*• Dr. Gangel said the only other •cuts he could imagine would reduce ;raises.
