The Bronze Medal winner, Melanie Utz, from the fifth grade at Floyd T. Binns Elementary School in Culpeper read her essay on Zebulon Pike. She received a special certificate, a pin and a book. Her essay went on to compete at the District level.
Honorable Mention went to Alexandra Van Buren, of the seventh grade at Wakefield Country Day School who read her essay on Verrazano and to Leslie Taylor from the eighth grade at William Wetsel Middle School in Madison who read her essay on Lewis and Clark.
Both these girls received the special certificate and the book.
Following the program, Mrs. Kilby invited all to a lovely tea served by the hostesses, Mrs. Bill Ruben Ballard, Mrs. Leonard Mallonee Cowherd, and Mrs. Michael Preston Garrett.
For the next meeting on April 9, there will be a trip to Belle Grove with luncheon at the Wayside Inn. ,
