Two Rappahannock students have just completed their “rat” years at VMI and both tell of the pride they feel in having survived that experience.
Jeff Holder said he would never want to go through the experience again “but I’m glad I did it. It makes you feel you have earned something.” In thinking about what the Supreme Court decision will mean, he said, “A lot of things are going to have to change. I don’t see how it can continue as it is.” He said changes will be required in barracks life and military training. “It will work, I guess. It’s working at West Point,” he added. “It’s not going to bother me too much if girls are there.”
