The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, met for a luncheon meeting at the Public House in Flint Hill on June 11 with the Regent, Mrs. Irvin R. Kilby presiding. Members were treated to the luncheon by the hostesses Mrs. Thomas L. Eastham, Mrs. Edward I. Barton, and Mrs. Dale J. Metzinger.
The speaker for the afternoon, Mr. Frederick Hart, was introduced by Mrs. Eastham. He is an artist and sculptor and showed slides of three of his main accomplishments in the area and how they evolved from the award-winning commission to the completion.
A major one is the wonderful and powerful stone carving of the Creation in three panels over the three doors of the West Facade of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Another great accomplishment is the statue of the three soldiers at the Vietnam Memorial also in Washington.
These figures, seven feet high, were purposely removed from the area of the Wall itself but they were connected to it by the expressions of the soldiers as they faced it. Mr. Hart also did the statue of former President Carter in Atlanta, Georgia and one of former Senator Russell in the Russell Senators building in Washington.
