The Rappahannock Athletic Association wound up the regular season Saturday with a series of tournaments at each age level. These games were played just for fun.
Next on the agenda are all-star tournaments with players from neighboring areas youth league baseball teams. The 12 and under tournament will be played at Stuart Field Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The 9 and under and 10 and under all-star teams will be traveling to Orange for their tournaments.
In Minor league action Saturday R.L. Rider and Co.’s Dodgers defeated David and Donna Sheffield’s Indians 11-6. Zachary Tamburello was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts, and Jacob Dodson came in as a reliever and had five strikeouts.
Zachary and Nick Buser each had two RBIs on doubles. Daniel Pierson also had a double for the Dodgers. For the Indians Dustin White his a home run.
In the other first round game The Memory Makers’s Yankees narrowly defeated Howard and Lisa Swaim’s Braves 11-10. Then in the final game the Yankees defeated the Dodgers 137.
For the Yankees Luke Lukachik led the hitting with a single and three doubles. Jason Jenkins, Brandon Smoot and Michael Manion had three hits each. James Keiter, Alex Sharp and Joshua Everett had two hits each. For the Dodgers Zachary had two hits including a homer, and Danny Holden also had two hits. Joseph Davis and Alex Hammer each had a homer.
After the first round of games there were ceremonies in which players all received certificates and trophies were handed out. That was followed by a lunch provided by High on the Hog. Everyone enjoyed barbecued chicken, cole slaw, bread and drinks. “They did an outstanding job,” Minor League Coach Ben Atkins said of the lunch provided by the Sperryville restaurant.
Earlier in the month the RAA Rockettes, the softball team for girls 13-15 picked up two wins in a double header at Madison. The Rockettes won 26-12 in the first game. Austin Bnuffard was the winnino niteher.
