create a standard sized track surrounding a football field would require grading that would remove some of the existing parking area. Any space reclaimed for parking would have to come from the baseball Field. So plans are to convert it to a softball field, which requires less space, and move the baseball field.
Rosa Crocker and Jay Monroe of Monroe and Crocker, P.C., landscape architects, who have been consulting with the board on an overall plan for athletic facilities, made their Final report to the School Board Tuesday night. They estimated a cost of about $41,000 to develop a new playing Field at the elementary school, but Mr. Monroe warned the board that cost estimates were not entirely reliable. Most of the cost would be for grading work. School Board member Bryant Lee said perhaps the Lions’ Club could get some donated labor, reducing the cost.
By developing an additional playing Field there will be less pressure on existing uses of the Fields at the elementary school if baseball is moved there, the board felt. In addition it will be necessary to wait one year after the Field is seeded before it can be used.
