The Rappahannock Monarchs won both games of a double header with the Broadway Badgers Sunday at the RCHS baseball field in Apple Valley competition.
In doing so the Monarchs bounced back after losing three road games in a row.
In the first game Leroy North went the distance on the mound striking out eight and walking only three to contribute to the Rapp 12-6 victory- ryBroadway
took the early lead 2-0 in the first inning, but the Monarchs managed to tie the score and then go ahead 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning aided by a one-run homer by Reggie Williams, two walks, one hit and some fancy base running.
That score held up through the second inning. Then the Monarchs had a huge third inning with 11 batters at the plate that led to a 10-2 lead. Reggie Williams led off with a single. William Parker’s triple sent him home. Paul Brown’s double brought Parker home. Roland Harris had a single which moved P. Brown to third. Then Harris stole second. Luther Alexander’s single scored P. Brown and moved Harris to third. Junior Jones single scored Harris. Brook Miller’s single drove in Alexander. Festus Clanagan was out at first on a fielder’s choice, but Miller advanced to second and stole third. Back in the batter’s box for the second time in the inning, Reggie Williams had the final hit scoring Miller.
Broadway managed to cut into that lead but could not overcome it. Another Williams hit added to the Monarchs score in the fifth inning.
