At last week’s Town Council meeting the budget for the year 1997/98 was approved by the Council.
Mayor Stew Willis said that the town needs someone on a regular basis who can do maintenance on the water system. Council member Steve Critzer added that the town needs a contract with a company who can be called 24 hours a day if needed.
Louise Van Dort said she will check with other water systems to see if they are on a maintenance contract. She also suggested getting a list together of what would need to be done.
Walt Longyear presented a petition to the Town Council last week, with 70 signatures, and said there were more coming, signed by people who are opposed to expanding the boundaries of the town. He gave it to Mayor Willis. “This issue is a hornet’s nest,” he said.
Ray Gooch, chairman of the Town Futures Committee responded that the committee would like to know the reason why people do not want to be in the town. There is a general misconception, he said, that the Futures Committee would be developing undeveloped areas in town. “We are saying we need to be prepared for development when it comes,” he stated.
Mr. Gooch, said that the committee will bring a professional planner to the next meeting of the Futures Committee.
