Society Deserves Support

It is threatened because the current Historical Society building has structural defects. **' The building has no air conditioning or climate control, the roof •leaks and there is no security system in place. * These are all threats to the priceless historical documents and pther items of historical interest housed there. * The effort of the Historical Society to raise funds and take necessary steps to renovate the building and provide adequate security Js commendable and should be wholeheartedly supported.

dt » Hurricanes are bom and thrive in the ocean, but they can have disastrous effects far inland as well. Hurricane Fran dramatically proved that here last year. * Although Fran had weakened to a tropical storm when it entered Virginia last September, it produced tremendous flooding and wind damage. » Eight people were killed as a result of the storm and damages exceeded $300 million in the state.
