of ethics, excellence, and basics tod reminded the graduates, that as the college Class of 2001, they will be among the first on “Planet Earth” to lead the way in business, the profession^geducation, and government for the world’s next 100 years; that they need to have as one of their goals to “give back to the world more than you took from the world.”
Admiral Carey’s father gave him “simple Wisconsin farm boy ethics;” that were easy to understand, and there were only two rule: do what you tell people you’re going to do and pay your bills on time. He also added “Never forget, you become the ethics you practice. Use honor and honesty and courage and knowledge in your life and you will be known for it and will be, indeed, ethical... There is no substitute for excellence. You have learned excellence here at Wakefield. Practice it. Be the best in all that you do. Not just in your job, but also as a parents, in your church, in whatever associations or organizations you are a part of, in all you do.
