Tompkins prepared a letter on behalf of the council to engineer Roger Cronin of Richmond-based Greeley and Hansen requesting advice regarding the town’s water treatment plant. Letters from Allegheny Power and the Virginia Rural Water Association had been forwarded to Cronin for his review and evaluation. Tompkins reported that Cronin’s response would be presented at the next council meeting.
Consideration of appointing a new member to the Town Planning Commission was tabled for another month, while Jay Monroe’s appointment as town architect was extended by unanimous vote.
Mayor Willis presented new business, relating tourists’ concerns about the condition and location of a town monument on town property between the old town hall and McCarthy’s office. The council ultimately decided not to move or change the monument.
