Charlotte Nichols agreed that the project meant a great deal to her late husband and that he use to make note of attractive signs in Virginia (with Carney in mind.) “He loved what he did in scouting, and he never lost his enthusiasm for it,” she said.
Carney added, “If you do something for 40 years you really have to enjoy it. People could see it, too.”
He thanked the Lions’ Club for donating $275 to purchase the materials. “If it wasn’t for them this sign would not be here,” he said.
On the sign is a map of the county and Shenandoah National Park and on the other side facing the road is a fire advisory sign. It is a handsome sign built with sturdy timbers and a shake roof.
