for whom?

Katzen’s supporters have gone into print praising his hard work. On lady observed that she had never seen anyone but her parents work as hard as Katzen. That begs two questions: How can Katzen work so hard and accomplish so little? And for whom was all that work really done?
To satisfy my curiosity, I downloaded Katzen’s legislative record. It seems most of Katzen’s work was wasted on the failed bills he introduced. Chasing hopeless bills can use up a lot of energy and make a man seem to be working very hard indeed.
At the same time, precious little work was expanded by Katzen on meeting his campaign promises. He didn’t even bother to introduce impact fee legislation in the last session. But then Katzen was running for higher office. Self-promotion can use up a lot of energy.
And for whom was Katzen’s hard work done? A lot of it was for the governor who could always count on Katzen — to vote to subsidize Disney, vote to cut state funding for education, support a bloated prison construction package, reject no-strings Goals 2000 funding, and back the governor’s politicizing the State Board of Education and his decimating the State’s Department of Environmental Quality.
