Since meeting in June, to discuss plans for forming a local Triad organization, interested citizens have formed what has become that organization’s SALT Council, which is taking its fledgling steps.
The purpose of Triad is to reduce crime, heighten awareness and improve life for senior citizens in an area.
The formation of the SALT Council (SALT stands for seniors and lawmen together) is the basic foundation behind the idea of Triad. The council, which consists of eight area citizens, works to enlist volunteers and aid to carry out the mission of Triad.
Jeanie McNear, RSVP Volunteer Coordinator and Capt. Jeff Brown of the Rappahannock Sheriffs Office have spearheaded the effort to establish Triad in the county.
McNear and Brown have put together the Triad/Community Action Survey which will be available very soon at area locations — the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Social Services, the Rappahannock Senior Center, the County Health Department, Family Guidance Services, and local churches and stores.
Triad hopes residents, old and young alike, will take home the survey, fill it out and return it to a designated location or mail it in to Rappahannock Triad, P.O. Box 82, Washington, 22747-0082.
