Gall said the class chose to enter the Envirothon, a program sponsored by the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, where a team of five students and a coach study forestry, soils, aquatics, wildlife and environmental issues throughout the year. In the spring competitions will begin at the district level. Winners will continue to regional, state and national levels.
Robyn Kaye, RCHS junior, said she thought the water monitoring workshop and field trips in general were an important part of an environmental science class because in order to learn about the environment you have to work in it.
The primary goal of the Virginia Save Our Streams program is to connect interested citizens with their local surface water resources.
