Martha Belle WhartonGaar, 72, of Culpeper, died on Oct. 12 at her daughter’s residence in Orange.
She was born Dec. 17, 1924 in Rappahannock County to the late Rosser and Daisy Jenkins.
She was the wife of Harold Gaar.
Mrs. Wharton is survived by her daughter, Daisy Atkins Strickland of Orange; two sons William Wharton of Culpeper and Raymond Wharton of Rapidan.
She is also survived by six sisters Mary Woodward of Martinsburg, W.Va., Violet Wood of Amissville, Lorraine Speakes of Manassas, Helen Marshall and Susie Gallahan, both of Catlett and Cathy Brown of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include 10 grandchildren. Rev. Alpheus Atkins, Jr. of Woodville is a grandson.
Survivors also include 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother James Jenkins and two greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Found and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Alpheus Atkins Jr. and the Rev. Clyde W.R. Woodard officiating. Interment was in the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Dyer, Raymond Wharton Jr., Jimmy Menefee, Charlie Jenkins, Tom Jenkins and Jack Jenkins.
