and quantity awareness will be continuing focus of our evolving “ Water Monitoring Network” in the upper tributaries of the Rappahannock, which includes establishment of biological and chemical monitoring sites, streambank restoration through riparian plantings and improved water access methods, establishment of community-cooperative upper tributary “Community” within the Network sub-watersheds, working with public and private schools in the region to expand “ hands -on “ curriculum programs, and coordination of “ Watershed Tburs” within the sub-watersheds.
An increasingly important component of our programs in the year(s) ahead will be our Tree Planting and Native Plant Species efforts. Last year through the helpful efforts of John Kirchner and Lyt Wood, we provided 1,000 Eastern White Pines for planting and had a talk about forestry practices, including clear cutting.
