not known. The animals are secretive and difficult to track accurately. But they are out there, and people in the county claim to have seen them.

Local hunters and farmers say they aren’t too worried about coyotes, although there have been a few rup-ins.
Mel Ellis of Sperryville said he and his wife, Loreen, saw what they believe might have been a coyote from the window of their home recently. They saw a dog-like animal. “It was gray and white with a thick bushy tail. Loreen said it was a huge fox, I said it was a small wolf. I tried to get a photograph of it through the window but the flash obliterated the scene by reflecting on the glass. I went outside to get a better shot but the animal ran off into the woods on the Hughes River side of Corbin Mountain.”
Ellis said he and his wife consulted a book on wildlife and decided the picture of the gray wolf most closely resembled what they saw. “We discussed coyotes but this animal did not resemble the brown, lean coyotes that I encountered when I worked in southwestern Arizona. Perhaps it could have been another variety. I hope he pays another visit so I can try for another
