It is difficult to distinguish between a coyote and a wild dog.
Unless you are a sheep farmer, that is. Coyotes kill sheep quietly, getting them around the neck until they suffocate. But wild dogs attack the animals from behind, and they attack in a pack.
“If the sheep were killed by dogs, it’s going to look like the sheep stepped on a land mine,” said Martin Lowney of the Department of Agriculture.
And their tracks are different. Coyotes tracks are longer than dog tracks, and further apart.
