to the editor this week, this space is dedicated to everyone who quietly offered a hand to his or her neighbor during last week’s snow and ice storms.
For every act of kindness that reached our ears, there must have been dozens of others.
Let’s take Chris Hepler, a heavy equipment operator who lives across from the Laurel Mills Store, as an example.
On Saturday, he surprised a neighboring family by showing up unannounced in a pick-up truck equipped with a plow. Without saying a word, he proceeded to push the snow off their long driveway.
Asked later why he had acted so kindly, he shrugged and said that the lady of the house had brought him a cake when he was sick not long ago.
One more example: Dick Jenkins, who lives close to the Scrabble dump, drove two miles out of his way, sitting exposed to the cold on his tractor to plow the driveway
