Edward “Pete” Jenkins of Washington was awarded the trophy for the largest deer killed and registered in the Big Deer Contest which is sponsored annually by the Rappahannock Game and Fish Club. Presentation of the trophy was made at the meeting of the club on Monday, Jan. 13. Mr. Jenkins bagged an 11 point deer which weighed 200 pounds field dressed. A few applicants are needed in the Wood Carving Classes of the Adult Education Program which will begin Jen. 23 at the local high school. Mrs. Mary Cleverley of Flint Hill and Mrs. Dot Estes of Sperryville will instruct the wood carving classes. All classes begin at 7 p.m. and close at 9 p.m. and are held each Thursday evening for 10 weeks. Other classes to be held are Welding ajid Wood Refinishing and Repair and are already filled to capacity. On Sunday, March 2 the Rappahannock Jaycees will participate in a state-wide program for the benefit of retarded children. It will be “Apple Jelly Sunday.” At this time, the Jaycees here and all over the state will sell jars of apple jelly for $1 each. Proceeds from the jelly sales will go toward the purchase and establishment of a home or a camp in Virginia for retarded children. *
