In the next field was a herd of recently weaned donkeys, and a short drive away was a herd of close to 40 jennies. They were all bright-eyed and had coats in a variety of colors: white, red, brown, gray, black and pinto. They moved around without pushing or shoving, waiting for their turn at being petted.
