The Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals approved Richard Antony’s application for a 632 square foot, second-story efficiency apartment “with separation of use, and for not more than two people” in a building shared with his Long Mountain Nursery.
The board approved the application, since it conformed to the county code 170-62F, which states an apartment is permissible if its area totals less than 25 percent of the main residence. With his main residence at 3400 square feet, the apartment was within the code.
Antony said that he lived in the building for 10 years before he built another home nearby, and then used the first floor of his former home for an office. He plans for his wife’s sister and child to move into
