The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint on the night of June 18 about two men driving through a neighborhood near Route 656 in Castleton drinking and screaming. A deputy stopped the car and found no evidence that the two were drinking, but warned them to stop screaming.
Two single-car accidents reported
At approximately 8 a.m. on June 14, Linda Deardoff of Flint Hill was travelling on Route 637 south of 647 when she lost control of her 1991 Jeep and struck a tree. There were minor injuries, and damage to the Jeep was estimated at $7000. Ms. Deardoff has been charged with reckless driving.
Around 10 p.m. on June 20, Elizabeth Cook of Washington went off the road on Route 729 at 615 to avoid a deer. Her 1985 Toyota pickup struck a ledge and overturned. There were no reports of injuries, and damage to the truck was estimated at $4000. No charges were filed.
Vandalism in the county
Two mailboxes were reported missing on Long Mountain Road during the middle of the day June 14. A mailbox was stolen from a residence in the 400 block, and a mailbox at another residence on that road turned up missing and was later found damaged.
Some windows at Wakefield Country Ef^y School were found damaged in the early morning hours of June 14. Two of the windows broken were in the School Directors office. There was no evidence of entry into the school. Speculation is that this was possibly done by a student who was angry over a recent dismissal of a teacher at the school.
