life for our children and the future.
The letter by Robert Dennis in this issue of the
Rappahannock News, “The protection of Jenkins
Mountain,” just highlights the unusual levels of cooperation found in Rappahannock between individuals, local government, and conservation organizations who share the goal of protecting our rural beauty and way of life. Fortunately, for those of us who live in and love Rappahannock, the county’s citizens have a decidedly proactive posture that ensures that this county does not go the way of Fauquier or Loudoun or Albemarle. Rappahannock is unique in Virginia, if not in the entire United States, for its scenic beauty, for its protected spaces, for the view shed from within and from the Shenandoah National Park, and for the strength and blend of its citizens.
With the support of the good works of individuals like the McNears and Bob Dennis, established organizations like the Ragged Mountain Resource Center, the Rappahannock League Environmental Protection, and the Piedmont Environmental Council, and emerging organizations like the Rappahannock County Conservation Alliance, we can be assured that the Rappahannock County we love will be here for our children, and our children’s children.
