Amissville Post
Office
The United States Postal Service has agreed to purchase one acre from Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth D. Ring along Route 642 near Amissville Baptist Church. The Postal Service wishes the have the land re-zoned commercial so that they may build a new Amissville Post Office.
Postal Service representative Clayton Redmond spoke to the commission. He said that the current facility is too small. Redmond added that they anticipate an October, 2000 completion date for the new facility.
Many people in attendance spoke to the commission in regards to this particular application, most of whom were in favor. Among them were Bob Lindquist, Amissville Postmaster Beverly Wren, Donald Brown - who presented a petition with signatures from 340 people also in favor - and Steve Miller.
Ron Makela said that he doesn’t have a problem with a new post office, but is concerned with the location. He and Jack Atkins both questioned the \»lidity of a private traffic study authorized by the postal service and endorsed by VDOT. Concerns include increased traffic on the road and future commercial development on 642.
The commission voted unanimously to send it to the Board of Supervisors for approval with a few conditions. They include final site plan approval, a de-celeration lane and a reduction of the speed limit in that area.
