He would drive out to this orchard from Washington, DC on a regular basis. Every time, he would come back to Washington a different way. He was looking for a place to replicate these conditions. He needed certain factors to work out.
These included a place at least 1250 feet above sea level, 500 feet above surrounding terrain, with just the right soil and, of course, water.
Twelve years ago, Sellers leased property from Pat Saltonstall and put in 1000 cherry trees. That orchard is still operational today. The Sutphin family, who lives nearby, manages the farm, and even brings workers there to pick the trees.
