Five years ago, Sellers bought the property where Cherries on Top now exists. Maury Sutphin cleared off the land, and Sellers proceeded to plant 1250 cherry trees. This is the first year that this orchard has produced a crop. Sellers noted that the Sutphins are a big part of his success. He added that they are “wonderful people.” Charles Sutphin maintains the equipment on the orchard.
Water is important for the cherries to grow, needless to say. He has a series of sedimentation ponds throughout the property because without water, the trees don’t grow properly. “You must irrigate,” said Sellers.
Cherry season occurs 6070 days after bloom. When exactly bloom occurs varies, but Sellers did say that the next crop will be available around this time next year.
